Lundin Gold, through its Ecuadorian subsidiary Aurelian Ecuador S.A., owns the Fruta del Norte Mine (FDN), located in southeastern Ecuador in the Zamora Chinchipe Province.

Fruta del Norte (FDN) is one of the largest and highest grade gold deposits in the world currently in production. The Company has an experienced mine operations team dedicated to advancing FDN responsibly. In the fourth quarter of 2019, Lundin Gold realized first gold production as well as the first export of gold concentrate and doré. In the first quarter of 2020 FDN achieved commercial production. Lundin Gold operates transparently in accordance with international best practices and according to its three core principles: Working Safely, Environmental Stewardship and Respect.

THE ROLE

Lead, direct and follow up the planning and development activities of the engineering stages in the conceptual, pre-feasibility, feasibility and detail phases of the projects assigned under his responsibility through consultants or developed internally, ensuring compliance with the criteria of scope, cost, schedule, quality and safety in the design.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Validate the quality of deliverables issued by engineering consultants.
  • Verify at each stage of Engineering the environmental and construction / operation permit requirements required for the projects.
  • Visit the fabrication shops.
  • Validate the constructability plan of the project.
  • Verify that requests for information (RFI) are answered in a timely manner.
  • Deliver information requested by engineering consultants.
  • Provide engineering information to the construction team as required.
  • Verify that engineering closeout documents are issued.
  • Participate in the Kick off Meeting of the engineering contracts.
  • Provide information and/or answer queries to the Project Control team for the preparation of the schedule and to the Estimating team for the preparation of the cost estimate.
  • Coordinate with the Project Control team the validation of the progress of the engineering consultants.
  • Verify compliance with engineering deliverables dates by the consultants.
  • Coordinate with the Project Control team the engineering progress review meetings and with the Quality team the issuance of the engineering closure documents (red line, as built, among others) that will form the TOP.
  • Participate in risk identification and control meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with action plans for risk controls under his/her responsibility.
  • Ensure the timely preparation of bidding documents for engineering services.
  • Perform technical evaluation of engineering proposals.
  • Respond to queries during the bidding process.
  • Ensure that procurement requirements are issued in a timely manner (as required).
  • Detect and process early any changes that may be required to engineering contracts.
  • Ensure that change management procedures are followed.
  • Review budget and schedule for proposed contract changes.
  • Review monthly consultant payrolls.
  • Perform inspection of materials and equipment upon arrival at the mine (in coordination with the construction team).
  • Verify that Safety, Health and Environmental requirements are considered in the engineering development.
  • Ensure alignment of Engineering with Ecuadorian legal standards, design criteria and Company specifications.
  • Participate in the issuance of lessons learned.
  • Propose improvements in engineering processes to the Management Systems team.
  • Constantly search for ways of optimization and savings within the projects during their engineering stages and apply Value Engineering principles.
  • Maintain a fluid communication with all stakeholders, to ensure an efficient coordination for the development of the Engineering and to consider operational, maintenance, environmental, permits, safety and constructability aspects.
  • Implement and maintain the document control system in the organization.
  • Perform other activities assigned by the immediate superior in the scope of his competence.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • University degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years in similar engineering supervisory positions in the industrial, mining, petrochemical, metallurgical or related sectors and 15 years working in engineering development.
  • Have proven experience in quality control and technical standards.
  • Knowledge and application of FEL Methodology.
  • Knowledge in Management Systems
  • Experience in industrial project engineering
  • Experience in identification, management and integration of key stakeholders from different project support areas such as Environment, Permits, Finance, Operational Areas, etc., in order to achieve the best quality of input data for the correct development of Engineering.
