Lundin Gold, through its Ecuadorian subsidiary Aurelian Ecuador S.A., owns the Fruta del Norte Mine (FDN), located in southeastern Ecuador in the Zamora Chinchipe Province.
Fruta del Norte (FDN) is one of the largest and highest grade gold deposits in the world currently in production. The Company has an experienced mine operations team dedicated to advancing FDN responsibly. In the fourth quarter of 2019, Lundin Gold realized first gold production as well as the first export of gold concentrate and doré. In the first quarter of 2020 FDN achieved commercial production. Lundin Gold operates transparently in accordance with international best practices and according to its three core principles: Working Safely, Environmental Stewardship and Respect.
THE ROLE
Reports directly to the Technical Services Manager. The Project Superintendent proactively leads the department to maximize the value of continuous improvement ideas and/or projects in the mining department by aligning with industry best practices in project management. He/she will be the liaison between the mining department and the EO area of general management.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define which PMO model best suits the nature of the project.
- Propose the scope, structure, roles, responsibilities and functions of each member of the project area.
- Strategic direction of the projects corresponding to the mine.
- Design, plan and control mine projects.
- Develop the business cases for each project, ensure compliance with the project schedule, control the Budget and the expected benefits of each project.
- Manage the development and compliance of the area budget while improving the efficiency of the department to reduce operating costs.
- Supervise contractors and consultants supporting mine projects to maximize value.
- Propose continuous improvement projects on an ongoing basis, and lay the foundation for a culture of continuous improvement at the mine.
- Conduct and plan project follow-up meetings, prepare project executive presentations. Monitor resources allocated to each project.
- Preparation of progress report of projects in execution. Documentation and analysis of lessons learned.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents and near misses related to the project group, and take corrective action for immediate, long term and permanent remediation.
- Verify and approve time sheets for their area in a timely manner.
- In collaboration with the Health and Safety Department, ensure that steps are taken to educate employees about hazards and provide appropriate training to reduce or eliminate occupational hazards, including occupational illnesses, and protect service employees.
- Develop, administer and communicate department and company policies and procedures.
- Ensure that the department complies with the requirements of the Government of Ecuador, environmental, health and safety legislation of the shareholders, and company regulations.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- University degree in Mining Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or relevant professional diploma and experience in a similar position.
- Minimum 10 years in the mining industry managing projects, with increasing levels of responsibility.
- Minimum 5 years as Senior Engineer/Project Supervisor.
- Underground mining experience will be considered.
- Demonstrate high leadership potential to guide our employees to safely meet production goals.
- Working knowledge of equipment, materials and tools used in the underground mining industry.
- Knowledge of relevant codes, standards and regulations.
- Good PC skills and strong computer skills with demonstrated experience in SAP.
- Management of PMP tools.
- Knowledge of Spanish and English is required; both written and oral.
- Knowledge/ Master’s degree (plus) in project management.
