Lundin Gold, through its Ecuadorian subsidiary Aurelian Ecuador S.A., owns the Fruta del Norte Mine (FDN), located in southeastern Ecuador in the Zamora Chinchipe Province.
Fruta del Norte (FDN) is one of the largest and highest grade gold deposits in the world currently in production. The Company has an experienced mine operations team dedicated to advancing FDN responsibly. In the fourth quarter of 2019, Lundin Gold realized first gold production as well as the first export of gold concentrate and doré. In the first quarter of 2020 FDN achieved commercial production. Lundin Gold operates transparently in accordance with international best practices and according to its three core principles: Working Safely, Environmental Stewardship and Respect.
THE ROLE
The professional will be responsible for supporting the Superintendent and Exploration Manager in the design, development and execution of exploration campaigns for initial surface and drilling projects and will supervise the technical team of geologists in the implementation and execution of exploration programs to meet the objectives set on time and budget. In addition, this professional must be aligned with Lundin Gold’s values of carrying out work safely, caring for the environment and respecting it in order to leave a legacy of sustainability for our communities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and execute surface exploration programs.
- Design and development of drilling programs to define the existence at depth of possible mineral deposits of economic interest.
- Geological, geochemical and structural interpretation to generate drilling targets.
- Technical evaluation of exploration projects.
- Supervise and mentor junior geologists. Ensure development plans are established and maintained for all direct reports.
- Ensure the quality of exploration and drilling samples that will be sent to the laboratory.
- Build cooperative internal relationships with key company departments to develop exploration activities (Social Responsibility & Communities, Legal, Permits, Environment)
- Report to the leadership team on compliance and report delays in exploration programs to generate strategies to meet the designed programs.
- Develop planning and timelines for exploration projects.
- Prepare daily, weekly, monthly and closing reports of exploration programs.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Solid minimum experience of 5 to 7 years in geological and structural surveying, mapping and interpretation.
- Knowledge of epithermal mineralized systems, porphyries.
- Handling of Office utility packages, Software applied to Geology such as: MapInfo, ArcGis, Leapfrog (desirable).
- Solid knowledge of description and identification of rocks, minerals and structural features.
- Basic to medium knowledge of drilling methods, control of the drilling program.
- Solid knowledge of geochemical sampling and construction of geological maps and construction of cross sections.
- Ability to understand large sets of geological, geochemical and geophysical data.
- Intermediate English (essential)
