Lundin Gold, through its Ecuadorian subsidiary Aurelian Ecuador S.A., owns the Fruta del Norte Mine (FDN), located in southeastern Ecuador in the Zamora Chinchipe Province.

Fruta del Norte (FDN) is one of the largest and highest grade gold deposits in the world currently in production. The Company has an experienced mine operations team dedicated to advancing FDN responsibly. In the fourth quarter of 2019, Lundin Gold realized first gold production as well as the first export of gold concentrate and doré. In the first quarter of 2020 FDN achieved commercial production. Lundin Gold operates transparently in accordance with international best practices and according to its three core principles: Working Safely, Environmental Stewardship and Respect.

THE ROLE

The IT Manager is responsible for direction of IT resources and day-to-day planning and execution of IT infrastructure, cyber security, business systems management, telecommunications, and IT compliance for the organization in Ecuador.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Selects, mentors, develops, and motivates qualified staff to effectively execute their functions for the managerial and specialized needs of the Company.
  • Ensures a safe, secure, and legal work environment.
  • Plans and implements education and professional development program for IT personnel to develop their skills and future potential and maintain a high level of knowledge in information/computer system technology.
  • Works with corporate IT and is a key participant in defining IT Strategy, budget, Governance, and future planning of IT projects through improvement sessions with Corporate IT.
  • Ensures successful implementation of the approved IT Strategy and Governance programs in offices, mine, and exploration sites.
  • Oversees the day-to-day execution of the IT Operations and Capital Budget, ensuring cost effectiveness and optimization.
  • Monitors daily operations, including server equipment, software, network, and operating systems.
  • Works with direct reports to coordinate technology installations, upgrades, and maintenance.
  • Ensures testing, troubleshooting, and modifying of information systems are performed so that systems operate effectively.
  • In conjunction with Corporate IT team, is a key decision maker in selecting and purchasing new and replacement hardware and software for mine site and offices in Ecuador.
  • Works with Corporate IT to develop and track performance reports/metrics of IT Systems, IT Services and IT Security and is directly responsible for providing ongoing monthly reports to the organization.
  • Supports the IT Infrastructure team by providing senior technical expertise in troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
  • Identifies and acts on opportunities to improve and update software and systems in accordance with the organization’s IT needs.
  • Oversee the successful implementation of IT projects, including system updates, upgrades, migrations, and outages by coordinating resources and timetables with the IT Team and company departments.
  • Develop and maintain a library of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the day-to-day administration of local IT.
  • Responsible for program development and execution along with implementation of new applications and changes to existing business applications.
  • Works with Corporate IT to evaluate technology risks and develop, test, and maintain a business continuity, disaster recovery plan, and backup procedures.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day protection of the organization’s data with consideration of technology risks identified.
  • Facilitates interactions with Corporate IT and external auditors; conducts and manages regular cyber and governing control audits on systems.
  • Implementation of cyber remediation plans and recommendations set by routine cyber audits performed by corporate IT, consultants, and cyber experts.
  • Sets infrastructure and hardware standards in accordance with established corporate policies that meet the Company’s information technology security and performance requirements.
  • Maintains knowledge of developments in IT systems, cloud technologies, cyber security and makes recommendations for incorporating these new developments into the future needs of the company and IT Strategy, policies, and procedures
  • Maintains a quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
  • Manages and troubleshoots IT crisis situations, which may involve complex hardware and software problems.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a computer related field, or associate degree / technical school certification plus work experience.
  • Continuing education including but not limited to system management and design, electronic business, and database management.
  • A minimum of 15 years of related work experience including 5 years in a supervisory capacity
  • Strong background in management and business principals and advanced training in other technical fields is a benefit
  • Previous experience working in IT in a mining environment is an asset
  • Excellent Customer Service and Communication skills
  • Experience in managing IT projects, IT infrastructure, and IT services
  • Experience and understanding of Business Applications Architecture (SAP, Evolution, Isometrix) and other Mining Applications is an asset
  • Experience with IT Infrastructure including networking, computer hardware, wireless technology, and IT information security, Microsoft Cloud, Microsoft Windows software, including server, office, and email.
  • Proficient in both spoken and written Spanish and English to communicate to Corporate IT, auditors, consultants, and Senior Management.
