THE ROLE
The Process Specialist – Flotation will provide technical support to the process plant with a specific focus on the flotation process, to improve plant performance by analyzing plant data, and laboratory and scale tests to research, develop, refine, and improve the metallurgical performance of the process. The position requires a high level of technical competence in gold mineral flotation, experience in sulphide flotation plants, and processing complex materials such as oxide and refractory ores.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct flotation circuit optimization projects to improve recovery of gold, final concentrate grade, and reduce costs.
- Conduct flotation circuit data analysis to identify bottlenecks and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Troubleshoot flotation issues associated with sulphide oxidation, clay content, slow-floating sulphides, and liberation.
- Manage contract personnel during flotation improvement project evaluation and implementation stages.
- Analyze flotation performance by calculating reagent usage, sampling process flow, testing flotation circuits, inspecting process controls, and analyzing flotation performance.
- Utilize statistical analytical techniques to calculate impacts of process changes.
- Design laboratory experiments to evaluate process improvements including trialing new flotation collectors, pH modifiers, activators, and frothers.
- Analyze performance data and make recommendations or prepare reports on the improvement of current flotation methods or procedures, utilization and types of equipment.
- Troubleshoot facility operational performance issues and provide optimization methods to existing metallurgical operations.
- Diagnose complex equipment or process malfunctions, production or test problems, plan and carry out corrective actions or direct operators in correcting problems.
- Advise operations personnel on process changes, reagent consumption, water and air adjustments, etc., to obtain the desired process on a continuous basis.
- Manage the scope of work for metallurgical testwork programs; including ore characterization.
- Prepare Technical Memorandums to report flotation process test data and evaluations.
- Assist in the training of operations personnel, especially in the flotation area, to ensure optimum recovery results.
- Assist in the training and mentoring of metallurgists to acquire new skills and reach their full potential.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
