Lundin Gold, through its Ecuadorian subsidiary Aurelian Ecuador S.A., owns the Fruta del Norte Mine (FDN), located in southeastern Ecuador in the Zamora Chinchipe Province.
Fruta del Norte (FDN) is one of the largest and highest grade gold deposits in the world currently in production. The Company has an experienced mine operations team dedicated to advancing FDN responsibly. In the fourth quarter of 2019, Lundin Gold realized first gold production as well as the first export of gold concentrate and doré. In the first quarter of 2020 FDN achieved commercial production. Lundin Gold operates transparently in accordance with international best practices and according to its three core principles: Working Safely, Environmental Stewardship and Respect.
THE ROLE
The professional will be responsible for supporting the design, development and execution of exploration campaigns for surface and drilling projects. He/she will also be responsible for generating, analyzing and interpreting exploration/drilling geological data and processing it to establish targets of interest that are aligned with the objectives of the Vice Presidency of Exploration. In addition, this professional must be aligned with Lundin Gold’s values of carrying out work safely, caring for the environment and respecting it in order to leave a legacy of sustainability for our communities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
In exploration:
- Define and diagnose geological-mining areas of greater or lesser interest on the surface, through sampling of rocks, sediments, soils and mapping of outcrops.
- Integrate remote exploration tools, such as satellite imagery, remote sensing or drones, to identify key areas prior to field work.
- Use multivariate analysis with advanced geochemical techniques to prioritize areas with greater economic potential.
- Interpretation of laboratory results and preparation of maps using methodologies such as Anaconda.
- Collaborate with the interpretation and development of geological models, using specialized geological modeling software.
- Issue technical reports on work performed.
- Feed and validate the geological database.
- Ensure that rock and soil sampling by prospectors is carried out in accordance with surface exploration sampling protocols.
In Drilling:
- Geological-geotechnical description of drilling cores to evaluate the information obtained from diamond drilling wells.
- Coordinate, supervise and close diamond drilling wells completed or in progress.
- Deliver clear and accurate information so it can be used by the entire team and the company.
- Control the quality of geological information entered into the database by applying the quality assurance and control (QAQC) protocol during sampling of rocks, soils and drill cores.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- University Degree in Geology Engineering, Mining Engineering or similar.
- Solid minimum experience of 2 years in geological and structural surveying, mapping and interpretation.
- Knowledge of epithermal, porphyry, and skarn mineralized systems (desirable).
- Handling of Office utility packages, Software applied to Geology such as: Mapinfo, Arcgis, Leapfrog (desirable).
- Knowledge of description and identification of rocks, minerals and structural characteristics.
- Problem solving skills
- Basic knowledge of drilling methods, control of drilling program.
- Basic knowledge of geochemical sampling, construction of geological maps and construction of cross sections.
- Ability to understand geological, geochemical and geophysical data sets.
- Intermediate English
