Lundin Gold, through its Ecuadorian subsidiary Aurelian Ecuador S.A., owns the Fruta del Norte Mine (FDN), located in southeastern Ecuador in the Zamora Chinchipe Province.
Fruta del Norte (FDN) is one of the largest and highest grade gold deposits in the world currently in production. The Company has an experienced mine operations team dedicated to advancing FDN responsibly. In the fourth quarter of 2019, Lundin Gold realized first gold production as well as the first export of gold concentrate and doré. In the first quarter of 2020 FDN achieved commercial production. THE ROLE
The Mining Engineer contributes to the development of mine design related to subway operations, ventilation, surveying, backfill and production schedules. Working closely with the operations team and geology group, the incumbent supports the study of mining methods, performs cost analysis, generates mining plans and provides direction to junior members of the Technical Services staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise and develop junior engineers and technicians within the Technical Services Group.
- Develop novel approaches and evaluate plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities.
- Devise new approaches to problems encountered with originality and technical judgment.
- Plan and conduct surveys, tests or investigations, interpret results and prepare recommendations, summaries, schedules and cost estimates.
- Coordinate with representatives from other departments to plan and execute priority activities within planned timelines and budgets.
- Perform work that includes a number of complex features, such as conflicting design requirements, inadequacy of standard materials, difficult coordination requirements, and demanding deadlines.
- Plan, schedule, track and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work for major mine components including development design, stoping sequence, ventilation, backfill and dewatering.
- Detailed planning of short term mine designs and operating schedules, including short and medium term forecasts and budgets.
- Economic analysis of different operating schedules and scenarios
- Maintaining current designs in the database and ensuring their implementation at the mine.
- Ensuring departmental compliance with government agencies, financial covenants, shareholders, environmental, health and safety legislation and company regulations.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferably in Mining, Geotechnical or Civil Engineering).
- A minimum of 5 years of technical or operational experience in a subway mine.
- Excellent technical communication and presentation skills
- Project management and cost control skills
- Experience in designing subway mine development and production plans and programs.
- Excellent knowledge of mine design and support software used in the subway mining industry: Deswik, Vulcan, Mine 2-4d, EPS Scheduler, AutoCad, MS Office, etc.
